Housing First

Housing First as a Policy

Housing First is a foundational practice where people experiencing homelessness are rapidly moved from the streets and shelters into stable housing and long-term housing with necessary additional supports.

 

The goal is to provide and or encourage stable housing as a platform from which to deliver other necessary services.

Helps clients find housing while also helping that client move in and maintain that housing.

Clinical Supports

Facilitating access to services for health and social care to assist clients in obtaining housing stability while also encouraging overall well-being.

Complementary Supports

Facilitating access to services such as employment supports, training through a case-by-case bases to help improve client quality of life, community engagement.

Includes: Clinical supports such as psychiatrists, nurses, doctors, substance misuse specialists

Scope: Operates within the acute models of support with a focus on recovery to return to overall balanced well-being.
